Deployment of Jägerregiment 2 to Duala commences tomorrow.

Helicopters of Transporthubschrauberregiment 40 will fly our men in, with an expected arrival at approx. 06.00.

Forecast is for ongoing storm conditions, dissipating by afternoon. You will be flying in through rain and clouds, so expect some reduction in visibility.

The Central Government has extended the UN Peacekeeper lease on Kinsella Airport to the Bundeswehr. Kinsella Airport will stand as the staging point of operations until further notice. The vehicles discussed in the previous document have all been delivered and unloaded at the Airport for use at your discretion.

Mission Statement
Operation: Nashorn
1. Phase: SO-Dschungel

---

Progression of the Rebel Liberation Army along the eastern coast has brought them within close proximity of the UN Refugee Camp east of Kinsella Airport.

Refugees report that RLA troops have seized property in small villages in the southeastern jungles, and have been prowling the region for at least a week. Attempts to locate encampments have been unsuccessful, though drone photographs have confirmed rebel movement in the jungles:

Operation: Nashorn Einsatzbefehle Droneshot_zpskqorpvlk

Upon landing in Duala, Jägerregiment 2 is to travel eastwards, past the nearby UN Refugee Camp, and begin conducting anti-RLA operations in the southeastern jungles.

Mission Priorities:

1) Guarantee the security of the Refugee Camp by clearing sections of jungle near to it.

2) Clear Kimbaka and neighbouring small villages in the region of Rebel Liberation Army presence.

3) Clear the Tasmera Airfield of Rebel Liberation Army presence and secure for use in future operations.

4) Secure the crossing into the Suidorra Region.

5) Scour the jungles for Rebel Liberation Army encampments and tear them down.

Remember, always, that the foremost priority is protection of civilian lives.

We are expecting to receive an official communication from a regional field commander of the AFCGD later this afternoon. Once we receive it, it will be promptly relayed to you.

Viel Glück,

Oberstleutnant Fromm

Thank you for submitting the after-action report, Leutnant.

United Nations correspondence has confirmed the reception of refugees from Larenga following this morning's action against Rebel Liberation Army soldiers in the jungles and hillside east of the town. Larenga should be fully vacated, though civilians are still known to be present in the smaller villages to the southeast. Exercise due caution moving forward.
They also notified me that a Peacekeeper was killed in action after straying into our combat zone, and followed by expressing sympathy for our own losses sustained in that action.

As discussed in this morning's mission briefing, I have received our first formal correspondence from the Armed Forces of the Central Government of Duala, henceforth abbreviated as AFCGD as the title is excessive, even by German standards. The following is a highlighting of pertinent sections in this communication, written by the Field Commander of Afrenian Operations, General Oumar Marais:

______________________________________________________________________________

Von: General Oumar Marais (AFCGD), Field Commander of Afrenian Operations
An: Oberstleutnant Alexander Fromm, Jägerregiment 2
Betreff: Jägerregiment 2 Operations in Duala

Hello and welcome to Duala, Oberstleutnant Fromm.

We are pleased to welcome a unit with such renown to our country to assist in the protection of Dualan citizens from the People's Liberty Party and their Rebel Liberation Army militants.

... (Omitted further pleasantries)

... The reported action against RLA fighters near Larenga pleased President Buntu, and he eagerly anticipates further success in this way in the future.

... (Omitted further flattery)

... However, guards at Kinsella Airport observed a careless incident with a small explosive following your Regiment's arrival. We are glad nobody was seriously harmed, and hope no further accidents happen...

... Rebel Liberation Army spokesmen have voiced anger at our invitation of a foreign military to intervene in this affair. They are determined to oppose such intervention, and you will find them entirely hostile.
We wish for you to continue your operations in the southeast. If you require help from our men, we will gladly provide it. We are, right now, mostly engaged in preventing an RLA advance westwards from Canto; some of their men moved south, and are likely the ones you face now.

On behalf of President Buntu and the Central Government of Duala, I hope we will work together towards the best outcome in this rebellion.

Best Wishes,

Gen. Oumar Marais

______________________________________________________________________________

The expected formalities aside, General Marais expressed a positive impression of our Regiment throughout the message. He also pointedly mentioned that his troops witnessed the grenade incident at Kinsella Airport; lapses in discipline do not reflect well on our Regiment, particularly when a Jäger is observed being unprofessional in the field.

As a gesture of goodwill, the 1st Company, Afrenian Guard has already been pledged by the Central Government specifically to assist Peacekeeper and Jägerregiment 2 operations. The Afrenian Guard has seen sporadic combat along the border between Afrene and Molatia Provinces, and are expected to be withdrawn to Kinsella within two days.

Weather conditions are stable, with sunny breaks forecast throughout the afternoon and evening.

You have made commendable progress towards the outlined objectives, and I anticipate that they will be completed within the next day.

Thank you for submitting the after-action report, Leutnant.

Field performance thus far has been entirely satisfactory, with a low total of regimental casualties amounting to five men killed in action. Our troops have also kept civilians out of harm's way, maintaining good relations with local authorities.

Mission priorities for Phase One of Operation: Nashorn have been attained, and I now present you with orders for Phase Two.

---

Mission Statement
Operation: Nashorn
2. Phase: O-Canto

---

The successful mission to cut Rebel Liberation Army troops out of the southeastern reaches of Duala has resulted in a joint discussion by officers of the Peacekeepers, AFCGD, and Bundeswehr regarding the next target.

Dualan officers were quick to suggest a renewed drive to Canto, a town in which the AFCGD experienced severe losses in a battle against the RLA. Together, we have outlined new objectives that culminate in the recapture of Canto.

Mission Priorities:

1) Secure the two river crossings compromised by RLA troops at Mawimbela.

2) Retake the island of Kirabo from RLA forces.

3) Clear the hills of the Cova Region, providing a route of attack for UN, AFCGD, and Bundeswehr forces.

4) Assist AFCGD forces in an assault to retake Canto.

The Peacekeepers have committed a platoon of infantry to perform a three-pronged attack on the two crossings near Mawimbela. Once the crossings are taken, they intend to provide security there until Afrenian Guard units arrive in the next day or two.

The AFCGD have scheduled a tentative date for the main assault on Canto: it is set to begin two days from now. In that time frame, we are to do our utmost to clear the land route between the crossings and Canto - the Cova hillsides and flatlands.

The weather forecast today predicts clear, sunny conditions throughout the morning and afternoon.

First, I begin with congratulations for the successful achievement of the first mission priority - "1) Secure the two river crossings compromised by RLA troops at Mawimbela." - as per the last document. The successful capture of Ursana is progress towards the second priority, the retaking of Kirabo from Rebel Liberation Army forces.

Kirabo is situated at the base of a large hillside, just east of the town, which has a clear overview of the area. As well as the expected precautions for urban combat, bear that in mind when conducting the attack.

The deaths of two Jäger to an improvised explosive device is sad news, and we extend our condolences to their Gruppe. A Funker and Stellvertretender Gruppenführer have been mustered and are waiting on standby at Kinsella.

The Peacekeepers have reported the deaths of six men in their action against RLA troops in Mawimbela this morning. To ensure the security of the crossings and Mawimbela, they have committed their troops to posts with overwatch at those locations.

Central Government authorities have sent their appreciation for your actions this morning, along with the subtle reiteration that they require a route through Cova to be cleared by the end of tomorrow. I have no doubts that this will be satisfied by then.

Your suggestion to continue operations in Cova after nightfall has been approved, Leutnant. I have set a start time of 04.00.
Sizable RLA patrols are still likely despite the early hour. Remain low and quiet while moving into firing positions. Plan thoroughly for engagements, and be prepared to relocate frequently so the enemy can not return accurate fire.

The Cova hillsides consist of rocky, desert terrain. To the east, near the coast, the landscape tends towards being predominantly flat around a main artery roadway leading to Canto. Focus on securing the hills, as this will either provide advantageous firing positions for the AFCGD attack on Canto, or allow a clearer path along the coastal road.

The helicopter crash earlier today was an unfortunate loss, and demonstrates that the rebels may have sufficient anti-air weaponry to deter safe, close deployment of ground troops by air. We have sent the replacement personnel to Kirabo by land for tonight's operation.

The rebels have released a brief video addressing our intervention in the Dualan Civil War. I have attached it here for your viewing:

This video makes clear their resolve to continue the war. We will not be warming their hearts further with tonight's mission, so make sure to cripple their foothold in the desert as much as possible.

Jägerregiment 2's action to clear passage through Cova has spurred the AFCGD to reschedule their operation for 09.00 this morning.

The AFCGD attack force is divided in two sections: the main assault force, and a platoon of Special Forces troops. They are both to depart from Kinsella.

Your dismantling of an anti-aircraft position permits the AFCGD to deploy their Special Forces operatives by air. They will arrive in two MI-8 helicopters at a marked landing zone, and approach Canto on foot from the west, northwest. They will likely arrive before the main assault force.
The main assault force comprises two large platoons of infantry transported by several trucks. This force is supplemented by a BMP armoured vehicle and two light vehicles. They are approaching the small city from the west, southwest.

As the Regiment is presently located south of Canto, this is the most obvious route to cover. The surrounding terrain in the west and south is flat and open, though small areas of jungle run parallel to the road. To the north is more jungle, running up rolling hillsides that close in around Canto. Small villages dot the surrounding area, and a port is situated southeast of the city.
Open terrain is obviously a problematic route, so make use of any available cover and consider different avenues of approach. Remember that the majority of AFCGD forces will be covering the open ground, providing a large base of fire to help distract Canto's occupiers.

Weather is predicted to be primarily sunny, with possible overcast as the morning progresses.
